First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

Before starting your internship you need to accept a Rider & Disclaimer which gives you a fair view of how this internship is going to be.

Once you give your assent to the aforesaid, you are added to the SVS Attorneys Whatsapp group of Interns where you are allotted your one-word ‘Code’, which is thereafter used to allocate work and provide you with instructions relating to the same.

Main Tasks

The Main tasks you would be asked to undertake during this internship are as follows:

  • Drafting the Petitions, Applications, Caveats and other such legal documents according to the dictation of Siddharth Sir.
  • Finalising and completing Petitions, Applications and Caveats by labelling the Annexures, marking page numbers etc.;
  • Performing legal research on the various propositions including but not limited to Constitutional Law, NDPS Act, CrPC, Tribunal Laws, Civil Procedure Local Acts etc.;
  • Attending client’s conferences, making notes of the same and providing briefings to Siddharth Sir;
  • Observing Court Proceedings that are happening through virtual mode and keeping track of the same; and
  • Other ancillary works of Siddharth Sir as and when comes.

Good things

One of the finest aspects of this internship is that it opens your eyes to what it takes to thrive in the profession of litigation. Believe me when I tell you that after completing this internship, you will have grown three to four times your skill set.

Every assignment I did while working for the organisation just added to my knowledge and skill set. I learnt a very essential lesson here: you can’t afford to make even the smallest mistake since even minor errors can lead to major stumbling blocks.

Besides this, all of the tasks assigned during this internship are of real importance for the client and for the office. This fact ensures that you develop a level of confidence, sincerity and precision in your work. Furthermore, throughout your internship, you will study and build vital skills required to succeed in the field of litigation, which will be extremely beneficial to you.

Bad things

As such in particular there aren’t any bad things, save for one – you are expected to be available all the time at Sir’s convenience which becomes sometimes difficult in virtual mode.

Other than this, it is as simple as it gets; You are expected to complete a task assigned to you as per the direction/dictation and if you are not able to do that obviously, you would be taken to task.

Stipend

I received a stipend and from what I know if you are able to complete your internship, you receive a stipend, which is certainly great. The amount is as per market standards paid in premier law firms.

Anything else?

The thing that I believe anyone considering applying for this internship should keep in mind is that starting and completing this internship are two polar opposite things. Starting this internship cannot guarantee that you would be able to complete this internship, because if you do not perform your tasks diligently, you will be asked to leave on straightforward terms.

So, please only apply if you have nothing more important on your plate than this internship. Also, before approaching the office for an internship, you must well assess whether you are not afraid of hard labour, strict deadlines and long working hours which may stretch upto even midnight on time.

That being said, I can assure you that this internship is an unrivalled learning and growing opportunity and trust me, I am not overstating when I say that no other law firm/chamber can offer you such an enriching learning experience.
