The Supreme Court is currently on its summer break with only three vacation benches sitting to hear cases. Only cases which require urgent orders or relief are usually listed before vacation benches.
Thus, a vacation bench of Justices PS Narasimha and Sanjay Karol was left miffed after a transfer plea came up for hearing before it.
The plea was preferred by a company seeking transfer of a case from Noida to Chennai.
When the Bench was informed that the transfer petition was coming up before the Court for the first time, Justice Narasimha orally remarked,
“Transfer petitions are listed before a vacation court? I don’t understand what is the urgency here in these. There are so many other cases.”
