Pollinate Group: A Social Enterprise Empowering Women

The social enterprise works on UN’s SDGs, that is, to eradicate poverty, promote gender equality, and provide sustainable energy for all, along with providing livelihoods to these communities, with a focus on women in India and Nepal.

Over the last few years, tier 1 cities of India have witnessed a rise in the number of communities set up along the periphery of dwellings due to in-migration mainly in search of work. These groups then form semi-permanent dwellings, with a makeshift and temporary tent, living and surviving in harsh and unhygienic conditions, bereft of clean water, electricity, and basic sanitation.

Founded in 2013, Pollinate Group is a social enterprise working on some of the primary UN’s Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs), some of which are: the objective to eradicate poverty, promote gender equality between men and women, while providing sustainable energy for all human beings, along with providing dignified livelihood sources to these communities, with special focus on women in Nepal and India. Pollinate provides clean cooking appliances, solar lamps, fans, torches, and other products that work off the grid, along with biodegradable feminine hygiene products like sanitary napkins. The products last for anywhere between 3 to 5 years, and range between INR 1,000 to INR 3,000.

Their business model is centered around women empowerment, giving them access to clean-energy products, providing them with entrepreneurship opportunities, improving their living conditions, and providing access to a dignified source of income.
