Chhath Puja 2023: An ancient Hindu festival called Chhath Puja is mostly observed in the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Jharkhand as well as in certain areas of Nepal. It is devoted to the worship of Usha, the Goddess of Dawn, and, Surya, the Sun God. This event is celebrated during the Hindu calendar month of Kartik, which falls six days after Diwali, usually in October or November.
The event consists of a number of customs, fasting, and sacrifices to the Sun God carried out by followers known as Vratis, who are often women. During the four days of the festival, the rites are performed on the banks of rivers, ponds, or other bodies of water.
