Ingredients

Black tea: I am using black tea leaves here in the making procedure, but I will also be sharing the recipe using a black tea bag.

Water: Using water to make the tea is essential; making chia seed tea is impossible without water.

Chia seeds: Chia seeds do not require soaking, but if you like a slight gel-like consistency, adding it after slight soaking is also recommended.

Honey: This ingredient is optional, but add it to make it sweeter.

Lemon Extract: A combination of lemon and honey makes the tea consumable and tastes better.

Instructions

Tea using black tea powder

  • Take a saucepan and add two cups of water.
  • Add loose black tea powder into the pan and start boiling.
  • Boil the tea or steep the black tea for four to five minutes.
  • Switch off the stove.
  • Use a strainer and pour the tea into two cups.
  • Allow it to cool down.
  • Add lemon extract and honey to the tea cups as per requirement and stir well.
  • Add a teaspoon of chia seeds to each cup.
  • Stir all the ingredients well and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.
  • Drink immediately, or chill the tea in the refrigerator and consume it after chilling.

Making chia tea using a tea bag

  • Take a saucepan and boil one cup of water or microwave one cup of water in a cup.
  • Pour the water into a cup.
  • Steep the black tea bag into the tea for a minute or two.
  • Remove the tea bag after it steeps well in the tea.
  • Allow the tea to cool down.
  • Add chia seeds and stir well.
  • Add lemon extract and honey to the tea.
  • Stir everything and serve the tea chilled or consume immediately.
  • Additional ingredients, such as mint, can be used, too.

Black tea and chia seeds benefits

Black tea: Black tea leaves help improve our immune system and alert us mentally during the day.

The tea also helps reduce stress levels as it contains caffeine and also helps reduce cholesterol levels.

Black tea is low in calories when consumed without adding sugars, and I have shared one such low-calorie drink on my blog using this tea which is a black tea recipe for weight loss.

Chia seeds: These seeds are known for improving digestion as they are good in fiber, improve heart health, and help keep the weight in control.

These seeds are pretty filling and reduce cravings for unhealthy foods. It is a perfect weight loss drink as it is low-calorie, filling, and refreshing.

Substitutions

I use black tea to make the tea, but the same tea can be prepared using green tea(matcha tea) or a green tea bag.

Variations

Honey: Honey can be sweetened by increasing the quantity or reducing the sweetness by reducing the quantity.

Chia seeds: Add the seeds directly to the tea or soak two teaspoons of chia seeds in ¼ cup water for ten to fifteen minutes and add the soaked chia seeds to the tea.

Suggested chia seed recipes on the blog are chia seeds for weight loss recipe and lemon chia seed water.

Lemon: Skip lemon if you dislike the tea’s sour flavor.

Storage

Do not store the tea; consuming it after chilling it in the refrigerator is safer than storing and drinking it.

Fresh tea is highly recommended as it has more benefits and provides a refreshing feeling.

Storing the tea for days changes its taste, and the tea loses its freshness and can cause more harm than good.
