Rava Idli
Rava idli is my favorite, i love it so much. But hubby is not a big fan of it. So i don’t make it often when hubby is around. But if i want to make some breakfast for myself alone. I am happy to give this a go.
Ingredients for Sooji Idli
- Rava / Sooji
- Plain Yogurt / Curd
- Water as needed
- Salt to taste
- Baking Soda or Cooking Soda
- Whole Cashews as needed

Sooji Idli preparation
- Take sooji and yogurt in a bowl and mix well. Set aside for 5 mins.

Now add in water to reach the perfect thick consistency. Add salt and mix well. Set aside.

Make seasoning, by heating some oil and crackling in the spices. mix well..Pour it into the batter and mix well.

Add little baking soda and mix well.

Now grease idli plate lightly with oil and place cashews in the center. Spoon batter in and steam cook for 5 to 8 mins.

Now remove the plates and remove the idlies carefully using a spoon.

Serve hot with chutney.

Take sooji in a bowl add thick unsour yogurt mix well and set aside for 5 mins now you can see the sooji has got nice and thick mix till it reaches the perfect consistency now make seasoning, heat oil in a pan add mustard seeds add in dry red chillies or chopped green chillies add in some curry leaves some asafoetida add some turmeric powder just before you make idli, add some baking soda mix really well grease idli plates place a cashew in the center soon some batter now it is done

Vegetable Rava Idli Recipe
Todays recipe is gonna be the south indian famous Rava idlis. Idli is a staple breakfast dish in south India. It is a steamed rice dumpling that is usually served with chutneys or sambar.
You could definitely see this dish in any wedding over here. Making of idli need several procedure like soaking of rice and dals for hours and then grinding it up and letting it to ferment overnight. But there is a easy idli dish that can be made with semolina. It hardly takes 15-20 min to make. Hope you all give this a try and let me know what you think.
Ingredients
- Rava /Sooji/Semolina-1 cup
- Curd-1 cup
- Rice Flour-½ cup
- Water as required
- Onion-1 chopped
- Carrot-1 grated
- Beans-3 chopped finely
- Green chilli-2 chopped
- Ginger-1 tblspn minced
- Curry leaves-1 spring
- Mustard seeds / Kaduku-1 tsp
- Cumin seeds / Jeera-1 tsp
- Salt to taste
- Baking Soda – 1 tsp
- Oil-1 tblspn
- Coriander leaves-3 tblspn
Method:
- In a mixing bowl add rava,rice flour, salt, curd and mix well.
- Add in water as per needed and mix well.
- This should be a medium consistency batter (Not so thick,Not so thin).
- Set this aside for 15 min.
- Heat oil in a kadai and add in mustard and cumin seeds and let it crackle.
- Add in ginger and curry leaves.
- onion,carrots,beans and mix well. Let it cook for 3 min.
- Add this to the batter and mix well.
- Add in lots of coriander leaves and mix well.
- baking soda and beat well till it gets foamy and mixed in.
- Add a tbspn of the batter into well oiled idli stand or any small bowls and steam it for 10 mins.
- When it is cooked,remove it with a spoon and place it in a insulated box.
- Serve hot with any chutney or sambar.
