1st Virtual National Trial Advocacy Competition by GD Goenka University, School of Law, Haryana [Cash Prizes Worth Rs. 48k; May 12-13]: Register by May 5

GD Goenka University’s School of Law will host its inaugural virtual national trial advocacy competition from May 12 to 13.

About the Competition

Trial advocacy is the branch of knowledge concerned with making attorneys and other advocates more effective in trial proceedings. A mock trial advocacy competition is a method of clinical education with a model court trial offered through simulation.

It teaches the students law in practice before the Criminal Court. It is taught as an essential trade skill for litigators in law schools and in continuing legal education programs.

Eligibility Criteria

Students pursuing a 3-Year L.L.B. Degree Course or a 5-Year Integrated and LL.B. Degree Course from the colleges recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate in the competition.

Rules for the Competition

General rules

  • The Language of the written and oral arguments shall be in English.
  • The participants shall have to prepare the case for Examination in Chief and Cross Examination of witnesses from both the Prosecution & Defence side and prepare their arguments from both sides. Examination in Chief and Cross Examination shall only be conducted orally and no written submissions are required for the same.
  • The competition comprises of Preliminary Rounds and Advanced rounds which would include the Quarter Final Rounds, Semi–Final Rounds, and the Final Rounds
  • Each Team would not face the same team in the preliminary rounds, nor would the same bench judge the same team more than once in the preliminary rounds.

Team Composition

  • The maximum number of participants per team shall be restricted tto 3 members wherein 2 members will be Speakers and 1 member shall be a Researcher.
  • Only the Participant who is a Speaker in all four- Preliminary, Quarter Final, Semi-Final and Final rounds shall be eligible for the award of the Best Speaker.
  • The identity of the team [name of the Law College / School / University] must not be disclosed to the Judges as well as to the other Participating Teams. Any such disclosure shall lead to disqualification.
  • The substitution of any member is not allowed except with the prior approval of the Administrators.

Language of the competition

  • The competition shall be organized and conducted in the English Language

Dress Code

  • A participant appearing as Advocates before Trial Court shall wear a black coat, white shirt, black pants, white/black salwar suit and, it should be sober and dignified.
  • Provided that the participants are prohibited from disclosing the College Logo Or ID card in the dress.

Registration Details

  • The Registration fee (per team) for the said competition is Rs. 2000/- (Rupees two thousand only).
  • Registration fee is to be submitted through the payment gateway provided in the registration form linked below.
  • Forms received after the deadline will not be received.
  • The registration fee is non-refundable.
  • The registration of a team will be considered complete once the registration fees are paid and the registration form, i.e., through Google form, with all necessary details, is received.
  • No change in the names of the participants shall be permitted after the receipt of the Registration Form, except at the sole discretion of the Administrators.
  • The last registration date for the said competition is 5th May 2023 till 11:59 pm.
