D’Silva, a social activist, mentioned his plea before the division bench seeking urgent hearing.
He suggested implementing a lottery system in which a candidate’s name is randomly placed on the EVM.
D’Silva also suggested that the order in which names are placed on EVMs be decided differently for each voting booth in presence of stakeholders and polling officers.
The petitioner claimed this suggestion was cost-effective as it could work around existing EVMs and would eliminate the need for Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) machines.
