The petitioner, Odisha Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Berhampur mayor Siba Shankar Das, was earlier part of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) party with a slew of criminal cases against him after he jumped ship.
He moved the apex court after the Orissa High Court, while granting him bail in August 2022, had directed:
“The appellant shall not create any untoward situation in public and shall not be involved in any political activities, directly or indirectly.”
The top court eventually quashed and set aside the same.
