Bombay High Court starts uploading judgments in Marathi

A separate and dedicated section has been made available on the High Court website for citizens to check such judgments which are translated into Marathi.

These judgments can be found under the section, “Nivadak Nirnay” (selected judgments) on the home page of the website.

As of now, three such judgments pronounced on February 20 have been uploaded.

These judgments include one pronounced by a division bench of Justices Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Kamal Khata, the other is by a bench of Justices Dhiraj Singh Thakur and Abhay Ahuja and the last one by Justices Ajay Gadkari and Prakash Naik

While the two orders pronounced by the bench led by Justice Thakur pertain to tax matters, the one by Justice Gadkari’s bench is an order in a  preventive detention case.

The translated copies have come with a clarification that the same can be used only for the limited purpose of helping the litigants understand the judgment in their “mother tongue” and cannot be used for any other purpose like execution or enforcement of court directions, citations etc.

English would continue to be the official language for judgments, it added.
