“Every society will have some problem”: Supreme Court says unconvinced by petition to enforce two-child norm

Petitioner Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay pointed out that the Prime Minister had batted for this and the issue had also been looked into by Justice Venkatachaliah commission.

“There are many things which are idealistic. But what is the enforceability of this in a court of law? How can we pass a mandamus,” the bench asked.

Upadhyay sought permission to share the petition with States but the bench turned down the request.

“Sorry we are not convinced at all…..First satisfy us. No notice to States,” the Court said.

It then posted the case for hearing on October 11.
