About the Gujarat Judicial Services Examination
Gujarat Judicial Services Examination is conducted annually for the post of Civil Judge (Junior Division).
Law graduates who fulfill the eligibility criteria can apply for the exam.
Gujarat Judicial Services Examination Eligibility
- Candidates must have a Degree in Law from a University recognized by law in India.
- Must be practicing as an Advocate in Courts of Civil and/or Criminal Jurisdiction on the last date fixed for submission of Online Applications or must be working in the Courts or other Allied Departments on the last date fixed for receipts of applications.
- Candidates must possess certificate(s), certifying to be possessing Basic Knowledge of Computer Application/Operation, issued by Govt. of India or recognized by Govt. of Gujarat.
- General Category Candidate must not have crossed the age of 35. For reserved categories, the prescribed age is 38 years.
Candidates who belong to the reserved category, women, and orthopedically disabled candidates belonging to a reserved or non-reserved category will get a relaxation of 5 years.
Note: Candidates, who have passed the Degree in Law from the academic year 2009-2010 and onwards, must have also cleared the All India Bar Examination, to be considered eligible for being termed as a Practicing Advocate.
Gujarat Judicial Services Examination Vacancies 2021
No vacancy has been released for this year yet. However, in 2020, notification released for the 31st judicial exam consisted of 221 posts.

Gujarat Judicial Services Examination Application Process and Fees
Application Process
The application process is online, and candidates can fill out the form by following the instructions given in the notification. Other than that, candidates must take out a copy of the original form for future purposes.
Fee
Modes of Online and Cash Challan (offline) are available for the payment of fees.
- General category: Rs. 1000 plus Bank Charges
- Reserved Categories: Rs. 500 plus Bank Charges
Gujarat Judicial Services Examination Syllabus
Preliminary Stage
The objective type tests are of 100 marks & 2 hours are given for completion of the test. Each multiple-choice question carries 1 mark with a negative marking of 0.33 mark.
75 questions in prelims are in English & the remaining 25 are in Gujarati. Candidates need to secure 50% marks.

The main examination consists of three papers. These are:
Paper- I : (CRIMINAL) [Marks : 75, Duration : 02½ Hours]
- The Indian Penal Code, 1860
- The Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973
- The Indian Evidence Act, 1872
- The Probation of Offenders’ Act, 1958
- Pre-conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (Prohibition of Sex Selection) Act, 1994
- The Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881
- The Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969
Paper-II : (CIVIL) [Marks: 75, Duration: 02½ Hours]
- The Code of Civil Procedure, 1908
- The Limitation Act, 1963
- The Indian Contract Act, 1872
- The Indian Partnership Act, 1932
- The Specific Relief Act, 1963
- The Gujarat Court Fees Act, 2004
Paper – III : (GUJARATI LANGUAGE) [Marks: 50, Duration: 01½ Hours]
The language of Question Paper-I & Question Paper-II of Main written examination shall be English. Answers to questions of Papers I & II of Mains Written Examination may be given either in English or in Gujarati, if not instructed otherwise.
The candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes & Scheduled Tribes, securing a minimum of 45% Marks and all other candidates securing a minimum of 50% Marks in the Main written examination shall be eligible for being called for the Viva-voce (Oral Interview) Test, provided the candidate has secured a minimum 40% Marks in each paper.
Viva–voce Test (Oral Personal Interview)
The Viva-voce test shall be of 50 Marks.
The object of the Viva-voce test is to assess the suitability of the candidate for the cadre, by judging the mental alertness, knowledge of the law, clear and logical exposition. Apart from that, it also tests the balance of judgment, skills, attitude, ethics, power of assimilation, power of communication, character and intellectual depth, analytical ability, and the like, of the candidate.
