“Have lost all hope, allow me to die in jail”: Naresh Goyal to PMLA court

Goyal, who is in judicial custody in connection with a money laundering case, appeared before the special court under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) for bail through video conference hearing.

He submitted that his physical and mental condition was precarious and not well.

He requested the court not to refer him to the state-run JJ Hospital as the travel from prison to JJ was troublesome, hectic, tedious and he could not bear the queue. He asked the Court to allow him to remain in prison.

He also pleaded with the judge to let him die in prison since he was 75 years old with no hope for a better future.

ā€œDonā€™t send him to JJ Hospital and allow him to die in the jail itself. Now, he has lost every hope of life and better he should die rather keeping him alive in such situation,ā€ special judge MG Deshpande recorded Goyal’s submission in the recording of daily proceedings.

The Court, however, assured him that all possible help will be provided to him for his mental and physical health with proper medical treatment during his incarceration.

Goyal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on September 1 in a case registered basis FIR of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which itself was based on a complaint by Canara Bank for an alleged fraud involving ā‚¹7,000 crores.

After Goyal was questioned, he was officially placed under arrest by ED on September 1.

Goyal approached the sessions court for bail after the Bombay High Court rejected his plea challenging his arrest and seeking his release.
