First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

Due to the pandemic situation everything including the first-day office formalities was held in virtual mode via zoom meeting. All the new interns were added to the WhatsApp internship group, where all the updates regarding the meetings and office work were uploaded on a daily basis.

Sir, used to hold virtual meetings almost every day from 7:45 P.M in the evening which used to end around 9:00 P.M- 9:15 P.M depending on the schedule, except on Sundays which was supposed to be a day off for everyone. On my first day, there were about 8-10 new interns from various other colleges who joined the office.

At first, Sir introduced himself and asked everyone to introduce themselves one by one. Then, he introduced everyone to the kind of work we were expected to do and some rules of the internship (e.g- assignments are to be submitted within 5:00 p.m in the evening and every intern is supposed to be ready with their presentation before the commencement of the next virtual meet).

Main Tasks

During the period internship, I was involved in various works- mainly Sir used to assign some research work every single day regarding which all the interns were supposed to submit a written note the next day before 5:00 P.M in the evening and also prepare a presentation regarding the same assigned work.

All the interns were given time to present their work and the research they have made in the presence of Sir and all the other interns.

The main tasks which were assigned to us were:-

  1. Researched specified topics as instructed by Sir.
  2. Researched various cases as required.
  3. Drafting of Special Leave Petition.
  4. Drafting of Review Petition.
  5. Drafting of Writ Petition.
  6. Miscellaneous and other drafting and research works.

Work Environment

The regular meetings conducted by Sir, helped me to understand the real-life scenario in the legal profession and his valuable rich experiences and suggestions also helped me to improve every day.

Good things

The good thing which I noticed during my internship tenure was that Sir used to pay attention to the overall development of each and every student. Everyone was welcome to have a conversation with Sir anytime regarding their progress.

Not only with regard to professional life and regular office work, Sir also used to enlighten us by sharing his valuable experiences in the profession and in life. By allowing every intern to present their work every single day, Sir helped each of us to grow our personalities.

Secondly, there was really great group coordination and a very healthy work environment where everyone was free to share the problems faced by them while drafting or researching either in the group or directly by texting Sir.

Furthermore, all the interns were supposed to give prior intimation if they were not in a position to submit their assigned work. As per the rule of internship, we all were expected to be in our formal advocate’s attire which is a good thing in order to maintain professional ethics and decorum.

Lessons Learnt

I have learnt a lot of lessons and it was indeed a beneficial and fruitful experience working with Sir. He had helped me a lot in improving both professionally as well as in my personal life.
