First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

I started the internship in online mode due to personal reasons. On the first day, I was briefed about the facts of a case and given specific research work to do over the phone. The documents necessary to understand the fact situation and do thorough research were sent to me over the mail. Links to court hearings were also sent.

I started my physical internship three days later. The office is apartments converted into office spaces. I was asked to come by 9:30 AM to the office. I met with Adv. Sukumar Oommen and Adv. Sherry Oommen, the core team of the firm. I also met the associates.

The day started with attending online NCLT proceedings at the office. Post-lunch, I was asked to research and find cases for a particular case the firm was dealing with. I did most of my work from the conference room, which had a big round table and a television to watch the proceedings.

Main Tasks

The work mainly involved research and finding case laws. You will be given complete information on each and every fact and issue present in a particular case before starting the research work, this allowed me to do a thorough analysis of the fact situations and submit my work accordingly.

During the tenure of my internship, I researched mainly provisions related to Shipping Rules and Cargo Claims, Securities Law, and the Mergers and Companies Act. I also got work related to Evidence Act, General Clauses Act and Limitation Act. I was also able to observe High Court proceedings and online NCLT proceedings during the internship.

Work Environment

The whole team was very helpful, supportive and welcoming throughout my internship. They are also very accommodating and allowed me to start the internship in online mode, despite there being many difficulties in assigning work online.

They consider you an equal at the firm and assign every work with a certain confidence in your abilities. They brief you about the facts and situations involved in the cases that come up in such a way that you understand the whole situation and are able to contribute. The work given was very much doable and there wasn’t any work pressure.

Good things

The internship helped me develop research and analysis skills. It also helped me get a practical understanding of the kind of fact situations that come, the various intertwined issues that might be present in a case, the various formalities involved etc.

Bad things

No bad things to mention.

Accommodation & Conveyance to Office

I stayed in my college hostel at Kalamassery. We had a college bus arranged for us to Kaloor metro station. The office is a five-minute walk from Kaloor metro station.

Stipend

No stipend.

Anything else?

The internship is the perfect one for students interested in corporate litigation. The internship helps you get a practical understanding of company laws and corporate laws.
