First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, and First Impression
On my first day at Tata Steel Legal Service, the team warmly welcomed me, instantly feeling at ease. They guided me through the initial formalities and introduced me to senior Legal counsel who was my guide there. who proved to be extremely friendly and helpful throughout my time there, offering valuable guidance and support.
The office space was modern and comfortable, with all the access to resources (like SCC, MANUPATRA etc.) and law book that I needed for my work readily available. During the tour of the premises, I was impressed by the well-equipped meeting rooms, cafeteria, conference hall and the extensive library resources.
The atmosphere at Tata Steel Legal Service was welcoming and professional, with everyone eager to assist and support each other. All Junior counsel, my co Intern and all staff member was very supportive. It was clear that the team was dedicated to their work, and I felt excited to be a part of it.
The infrastructure, including the advanced technology and support services, reflected Tata Steel’s commitment to excellence. Overall, my first impression of Tata Steel Legal Service was extremely positive, leaving me feeling valued and motivated to make a meaningful contribution during my internship.
Main Tasks
Main tasks included assisting in-house counsel with legal research related to the Factories Act, Contract Labour Act, and other labor laws. Additionally, drafting business agreements and providing comprehensive insights into legal compliance in the context of these statutes were essential responsibilities.
This experience deepened my understanding of labor regulations and honed my skills in drafting legal documents to ensure compliance and mitigate risks effectively.
Work Environment
At Tata Steel Legal Service, the work atmosphere was friendly and supportive. We had flexible timings from 10 AM to 4 PM with a one-hour lunch break.
This meant we could adjust our schedules if needed. Everyone was helpful, and we could easily share ideas and ask questions. The office was modern and comfortable, making it easy to focus on our tasks. Overall, the environment was positive and made working there enjoyable.
Good Things about the Internship
The internship at Tata Steel Legal Service offers numerous benefits, starting with its location in the picturesque city of Jamshedpur, known for its natural beauty and vibrant culture.
Interns have the unique opportunity to receive direct guidance from experienced senior counsel who serve as mentors, providing valuable insights and expertise. Working closely with the Principal Legal Counsel allows interns to learn firsthand from seasoned professionals and gain practical legal knowledge.

Interacting with interns from various law schools and states enhances networking opportunities and fosters a rich learning environment.

Bad Things about the Internship
One downside of the internship is the lack of direct supervision, which may allow for slacking off or escaping from work.
While freedom can be beneficial, it may also encourage laziness among some students. Self-discipline is crucial to ensure interns maximize their learning and growth opportunities despite the absence of constant oversight.

Details about the Accommodation, Commuting to the Office
For accommodation, I stayed in a PG located in Sakshi in Jamshedpur which offered affordable options for students. Sakshi and Adityapur have numerous PGs available at reasonable prices.
Additionally, transportation options like auto-rickshaws and cab services are easily accessible from these areas, facilitating convenient commuting to the office.
Anything Else You Want to Share?
During our internship, we often found ourselves unwinding at various chill-out spots in Jamshedpur. Marine Drive offered scenic views along the river, while Dalma Hills provided a serene escape with its breathtaking landscapes.
Our favorite hangout spot, however, was the local street food stalls, where we indulged in delicious snacks and bonded over shared experiences. These outings provided relaxation and strengthened the camaraderie among us interns, making our time in Jamshedpur truly memorable.
