Interview: Khushi from Kurukshetra University on Choosing Law as a Career

Please introduce yourself to the readers.

Hello lovely readers! Warm greetings from my side. My name is Khushi, I have completed my years of schooling education from ‘The Century School, Karnal. I have enrolled for B.A.LL.B (hons) in Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra. Currently, I am giving the exams of 5th semester. My whole journey had lots of ups and downs but I never gave up and my family supported my every fair interest and decision.

I chose law as my career because a law degree empowers a person on different legal aspects and makes them sensitive to the needs of their family, friends and the wider community on a day to day basis. It’s a ride filled with excitement.

What inspired you to pursue a law degree?

I have always been passionate about social justice and the pursuit of equality. Witnessing first hand instances of injustice and the lack of access to legal resources ignited my desire to become a lawyer who advocates for those who need it most.

My dream is to build a career as a human rights lawyer, working on cases that promote systemic change and empower marginalized communities. I envision myself using my legal knowledge and skills to challenge discriminatory practices, defend fundamental rights, and help contribute to a more just and equitable society.

So, esteemed readers, in this whirlwind of legal escapades, I find myself here, maintaining equilibrium between studies, competitions, and injecting a bit of fun. It’s been a fantastic ride, and I’m amped up for the upcoming chapters in this legal saga. Here’s to the exciting times ahead!

I have actively volunteered at the National Services Scheme in University, in this various camps are organized by NSS university cell related to environment and cleanliness drive organized on various days. I  am an active member of ProBono Club of our institute which organizes legal awareness camps in jail and nearby villages. These activities have fostered a sense of community and commitment to serving the underprivileged, which motivates me to excel in my legal studies and pursue a career focused on social justice.

How do you manage your time and stay organized?

I use a variety of tools and techniques to manage my time effectively, including creating detailed schedules, prioritizing tasks, and utilizing time management apps. I also find it helpful to set realistic goals and break down large projects into smaller, more manageable tasks. Lastly, have fun! Law school is an adventure, and you’re the main character. So, gear up, keep your chin up, and remember: You can totally handle this!

What advice would you give to aspiring law students who want to emulate your success?

My advice to aspiring law students is to never lose sight of their passion for justice and commitment to serving others. Cultivate your analytical skills, develop strong writing and communication abilities, and actively engage in legal research to equip yourselves for the rigorous academic demands of law school.

Embrace opportunities to volunteer at legal clinics and participate in pro bono initiatives to gain practical experience and connect with the legal community. Remember, success in law school is not solely measured by grades but also by your dedication to learning, your commitment to social justice, and your unwavering passion for the law.
