INTERVIEW: Nidhi Jain from NMIMS Indore on Doing Internships in Different Cities

This interview has been taken by Nupur, who is a campus leader at Lawctopus.

Please introduce yourself to the readers.

Hello there, readers!

I am Nidhi Jain, currently, in my 4th year of Law program from NMIMS, Indore. I had done my schooling from one of the prestigious schools of Bhopal i.e., Carmel Convent Bhel.

I have always found myself interested in various activities but most importantly in the willingness to never stop learning. I would like to quote from the poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening” by Robert Frost – “ And miles to go before I sleep”.

Why law? What inspired you to choose law as a career?

Justice and the will to do right and see righteousness prevailing around me and in the system instantly made me choose this profession.

How did you land in this college? What exams, struggles, and difficulties did you face on that journey?

Like any other law aspirant, I attempted CLAT and after much discussions and discoveries about various private college in the country, I decided to go for NMIMS due to its huge reputation and excellence at education and future opportunities.

There are fair share of difficulties and struggles but I have always kept my horizon wide and always had the wide learning outlook. Although, I may not have succeeded at many things but I have never hesitated in trying my hand at different things.

Tell us something about your college life. How’s life there? The academics, co-curricular, fests, competitions, etc.?

My journey at the law school has been a period of immense growth, both in personal and professional quarters. It was more about finding my areas of interest within the law and understanding the art of interpreting and analyzing law.

I did not restrict myself to a particular area or activity and tried understanding and participating in different types of competitions, internships, and literature. I also devoted a fair share of my time in writing columns on socio-legal issues to understand the actual working of law at ground levels.

Which is your favourite subject? Why do you like it the most?

I have always enjoyed subjects that were little application based rather than just learning the rules and laws.

Please share your internship experience with the readers.

Now, this is my favorite area!

As far as internships are concerned, my only aim was to opt for internships that were of diverse fields and places. I covered various cities to understand and compare the legal framework of different lower courts, high courts and other forums.

My target was to explore more and more with internships in different field and gradually, realize my area of interest. In my opinion, internships are one of the most important aspect of a law student’s professional life as it gives a first hand experience in the legal framework and its vital to start early. And doing so, your CV gets refined!

What are your future career plans?

My immediate goal is to be a good corporate lawyer.

Please give a small piece of advice for readers who are budding lawyers.

Don’t be hesitant to put yourself out there and learn to take chances. Be patient with yourself and your progress, things will fall into place.

Any pro tip for the readers?

While you have the time, explore, try to learn every day and expand your horizons as much as you can.
