About the Opportunity

The National Law University Delhi (‘University’), through its Centre for Innovation, IP and Competition (CIIPC), is seeking to engage a Research Programme Officer (RPO) (Part-time) for one year on a contractual basis.

About CIIPC

CIIPC at NLU Delhi was established with the aim of supporting academic and policy-oriented dialogues in the areas of innovation, IP and competition. CIIPC focuses on interdisciplinary legal research in the areas of innovation, IP and competition, particularly using the law and economics approach.

The Centre aims to discuss contemporary issues of fundamental and empirical nature, conduct legal and policy training in innovation, IP and competition, and build a network of scholars in these areas.

The activities of the IPR Chair instituted by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, have been merged with the activities of CIIPC.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Supervise research and provide technical and editorial inputs.
  • Undertake and present analytical work in a coherent manner for the purpose of developing a study and or report as part of research projects.
  • Supervise the intellectual components of the center’s events/activities, including education and training.
  • Assist in the planning and supervision of ongoing intervention and research projects of CIIPC.
  • Leading, managing, and working closely with a team of on-ground programmatic staff to ensure that the goals and deliverables of individual projects and the program as a whole are met.
  • Strategizing and working towards the expansion of the program in coordination with the Co-Director, CIIPC.
  • Supervising/writing funding proposals for ongoing and upcoming projects to ensure the continuity and growth of the Centre’s work.
  • Ensuring that the project deliverables and reporting requirements for different projects under the center are met from time to time.
  • Supervising communication strategy of the program’s work and activities to various audiences through reports, outreach materials, social media, updates for newsletters, blogs, websites, etc.
  • Participating in matters of institutional growth and management as may be required from time to time.

Duration

The appointment shall be for 12 months and any subsequent renewal is contingent on the further requirements of the project as well as an analysis of the performance of the candidate. The probation period is for 1 month. The contract may be terminated by providing a 15-day notice from either side.

Remuneration and Work Conditions

  • A consolidated Remuneration of Rs. 50,000/- per month. No additional benefits/perks will be provided.
  • Since the position is part-time, the work can be remotely administered online. If the candidate requests a workstation at CIIPC, NLUD, it will be provided.
  • The position involves 15 hours of work, including at 2-hour weekly catchup with the Co-Director, CIIPC.
  • If in the assessment of the Co-Director, CIIPC, the RPO has conducted substantial research (other than providing research inputs) an offer for coauthorship will be made during the early stages of the first draft.
  • The offer beyond the duration of the contract may be renewed based on the performance of the candidate and the remuneration may be renewed on mutually agreeable terms and conditions.

Essential Qualifications

  • LL.B./LL.M./B.C.L./M.Phil (Law)/Pursuing Ph.D. in Law.
  • At least two years of work experience as a lawyer/post-graduate academic experience (including course of study) after LL.B.

Expected Skills

  • Specialized knowledge of intellectual property law and other allied areas of law (viz., competition law, technology law, international IP law).
  • Academic writing and editing skills
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills to supervise research assistants and students
  • Academic discipline and time management
