Good things about the University based on your personal experience
The College has a decent number of faculty members (mostly doctorates’) ensuring students easily understand the concepts with varied examples. They are easily approachable with any sort of doubts students have.
The Library has a wide range of Law Books by different writers, Indian Journals, and International Journals (hardcopies are issuable on demand). Librarian is very cooperative and well-behaved with the students and can be easily approachable with any sort of difficulty.
The College has a decent environmental structure with easy means of transportation available. It also has a canteen which serves good quality dishes for a minimal charge. Wifi is available throughout the campus of the college. The College has 5 committees namely, Moot Court Committee, Journal and Seminar Committee, Debate Committee, Magazine Committee and Cultural Committee.
Each Committee has its own composition and guidelines should be followed inside the Committee any kind of unusual activity from any member would lead to termination from that particular Committee. All the committees are student aided and run by the members.
Every single week one or other Committee comes up with brainstorming sessions and the students have a clear backdrop of that particular session be it of moot, internships, debating, legal research and writing or personal guidance from seniors about the legal career.
Apart, from that, there is a wide variety of students from different states who haul to take admission to the prestigious Calcutta University. Mostly sincere students who are serious about academics are seen to have perceived various awards. Overall, the College is absolutely perfect for law students to enlighten up their careers.
Bad things about the University based on your personal experience
The Administration of the College is not very active they do not encourage students to participate in any competitions. There is a lagging of classes and professors sometimes do not bother to take classes. Too much emphasis on academics rather than co-curricular activities.
If there is a delay to submit the book issued by Library, a fine will be imposed on students after 14 days (according to me it’s not correct).
How’s the faculty?
The faculty is decent enough to solve any issues or queries relating to academics or any other scholarships to the minority classes.
Guidance from them is the most valuable thing which is needed at times of difficulty.

How’s the infrastructure? Mention some of the things that exist.
The infrastructure is not well structured and maintained. Government do not fund more for the infrastructure.
Internet connectivity is available throughout the campus which suffices the needs of the students. A single building consisting of 8 floors is being composed of Law Department.

How’s your hostel experience?
I do not opt for a hostel because my house is not more than 20kms from my college and on top of that, there must be a distance of about 50 kms from the hostel to your house.
As I went into my friend’s hostel, they are averagely maintained by hostel wardens serving decent quality food and the rooms consist of two separate beds and two study tables for two students. No AC is being provided in hostel rooms.

How are your peers?
They are very much enthusiastic about studies and we discuss any problems related to any subject with them. They also have strong vocab skills which would place them in a higher position than students who do not care about studies and also don’t attend classes.

How are the placements in your college?
There is a Placement Cell but it is not actively functioning. The Student Secretary Council is least bothered to take this issue to the Head and Dean, the situation is pathetic.

How are the co-curricular activities in your college?
The co-curricular activities are not being encouraged by the administrative body. If you are fit enough you can sway your path into co-curricular activities. It is mandatory for law students to have good viability over co-curricular activities also.

What are some of the things you’d advise a 1st-year aspirant who enters your college?
For the 1st year students, I would recommend studying hard, working hard and don’t lose track. It is a game of about 5 years where you can get to explore the legal arena in a vast range of time frames. Participate in essay writing competitions, Research Papers, Moot Court Competitions, Debates, Paper Presentations etc.
Do good quality internships under renowned advocates and well-known firms which will build your work experience as a learned advocate with all of these ACADEMICS is there. Score well in Academics and be in the top 10% of your class, it will be enough. You don’t have to have a great CV but a decent CV which will evaluate ‘WHAT YOU ARE’.
And also do not take extra pressure in your life, there are always good seniors who will be helping you at any point in your time. Legal professionals are also known as Mr. 360° who knows every bit of legal outset needed to be an outstanding lawyer.
