About the Webinar
In this digital age, online content is the primary source of information for many. These days, what you see or read online, is what is perceived as the reality. Hence, it is imperative for websites, entities, individuals, and anyone using such platforms, to be responsible with the content they put out.
In order to ensure that, content moderation – the removal of undesirable, offensive, or illegal user content from online platforms – is adopted widely.
It has emerged as a potent political issue, and important policy challenge. Moreover, in recent months, the world has seen growing criticism levelled against social media companies regarding how they moderate user content. In addition to this, to ensure accountability, many governments have also started to regulate online content.
In case the content does not match the standards of these authorities, it is subject to a ‘takedown’ process; this has wide repercussions for free speech, and access to information.
Clearly, legal scrutiny on the online world is heightening. Content moderation and takedown has severe consequences on how we consume information available online, and it is becoming increasingly relevant in the contemporary world.
