Madras High Court stays proceedings in defamation case against BJP State president K Annamalai

On November 28 this year, Piyush, who claims to be a social activist, had filed a private complaint before the Salem judicial magistrate’s court demanding action against Annamalai, alleging that the latter had issued threats and made provocative statements in a public speech.

In his complaint, Piyush claimed that in such speech Annamalai had cited an unverified incident from 1956, where the then Forward Bloc leader U Muthuramalinga Thevar had warned Justice Party leaders that if non-believers chose to speak about the Hindu religion, their blood will be offered to the deities. Piyush claimed Thevar had never said so and that Annamalai had fabricated such comments.
