National Essay Writing Competition on Social Justice through Legal Literacy by Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (Prizes worth Rs. 3k): Submit by March 20

About the Competition

The World Day of Social Justice is celebrated every year on February 20, 2023 to promote the
importance of fair and just relations between the individual and society. The day also tackles issues such as poverty, exclusion, gender equality, human rights, and social protections.

Social justice refers to the fair division of resources, opportunities, and privileges in society. It emphasizes fairness in how society divides its social resources. It is based on the concept of Equality and Equity. The significance of Social Justice is to ensure that everyone gets the essentials for a good life, gets adequate health care and also to eliminate all kinds of discrimination.

In the present generation, one of the crucial ways to attain Social Justice is through Literacy. Literacy is the foundation for educational, social, and economic success. Literacy helps to realize basic human rights and helps in reaping the benefits that law offers to all citizens.

People become aware and can make informed decisions and understand the rights accurately. Positive action towards inclusion and advocacy begins at home. Becoming a strong ally in a social justice movement requires ongoing self-reflection, learning, and openness to growth.

Hence to raise awareness about the importance of education in attaining social justice in our society, the School ofLaw (MSRUAS) is conducting a National Level Essay Writing Competition on March 20, 2023.

Theme

The topic for this competition would be “Achieving Social Justice Through Literacy”. The aim is to improve the institutional capacities of every student and enable them to effectively serve the society as a whole.

The Ramaiah University of Applied Sciences (RUAS) aspires to be the premier University of choice in Asia for Student-centric, Professional Education and services with a strong focus on applied research whilst maintaining the highest academic and ethical standards in a creative and innovative environment.

Judging Criteria

The word limit of the essay should range from 1500 words to 2000 words. The essay would be graded for 20 marks in all. The marking criteria for the essay is as follows:

  • Relevance to the theme – 5 marks (connection, the significance of the issue being discussed.)
  • Comprehensiveness – 5 marks (how complete and detailed the writer’s exposition of
  • the topic)
  • Originality – 5 marks (uniqueness, novelty and authenticity of ideas.)
  • Insights – 5 marks (a fresh way of looking at things, critical view of the subject.)

Entry Fee

  • The entry fee for the Essay Writing Competition is ₹200/-
