The bench, however, sought to know whether there is an ban on the slaughtering of goats.
The advocate replied that while there was no ban per se, there were rules regulating the manner in which goats can be slaughtered.
“There is no ban on slaughtering as such. But the West Bengal Animal Slaughter Rules, 1950 lays down a procedure, wherein a goat to be slaughtered must be certified to be fit by a vet,” the lawyer said.
