PIL before Delhi High Court to curb deepfake videos during Lok Sabha elections

Mehta told the Bench that the PIL has been filed by a lawyers’ body and that the deepfake videos circulating during the ongoing election season are deeply concerning.

He said that taking down these videos takes several hours and by then the damage is done.

“The videos are creating a narrative of misinformation,” he said.

The Senior Counsel added that there is a penal framework under the Information Technology Act to tackle such crimes, but that such action takes time.

That’s the technology…,” ACJ Manmohan remarked.

The Court ultimately said that if the petition is in order by 12:30 PM today, the case will be listed for hearing tomorrow.
