PIL in Madras High Court to allow public at parks, beaches till late hours to beat the heat

In an order passed on May 22, a vacation bench of Justices GR Swaminathan and PB Balaji issued notice to the DGP and the Police Commissioner asking them to file their replies to the PIL by June 6.

The Court was hearing a PIL filed by one RK Jaleel, a resident of Chennai and a social activist.

In his plea filed through his counsel T Sivaganasambandan, Jaleel said that Chennai has become “unbearably hot”, with the day temperature expected to cross 40 degree Celsius.

Due to the high temperature, most people are confined to their homes impacting their mental health, he contended.
