Shastrarth National Policy Drafting Competition by Public Policy and Governance Committee and Law and Technology Committee, School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru [March 26-27; Prizes Worth Rs. 23k]: Submit by Feb 25

The 1st edition of the National Policy Drafting Competition named Shastrarth is being organized by Public Policy and Governance Committee and Law and Technology Committee, School of Law, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru on 26-27 March 2024.

About the School of Law

Located in the sprawling campus of Christ University, Bangalore, the School of Law (SLCU) is an institute imparting world-class legal education. The programmes offered at the School of Law incorporate a number of special opportunities such as internships, clinical programmes, supervisory research and writing. To promote interaction between students and legal professionals, seminars, guest lectures and workshops are conducted on various subjects of law at regular intervals.

About the Competition

The Public Policy and Governance Committee and The Law and Technology Committee in collaboration with the prominent policy think tank VIDHI Centre for Legal Policy wishes to host its 1 st edition of the Policy Drafting Competition on 26 th – 27 th March 2024.

The problem will be oriented toward the latest developments in the technology landscape.  A policy problem would be drafted based on the above-mentioned SDG goal, and policy papers would be called from the students across all the law schools in India.

Theme

Recognizing the transformative impact of technology on society, we have chosen ‘Tech Policy’ as our central theme to foster insightful discussions, share perspectives, and explore innovative solutions to the evolving challenges in the tech landscape. We believe that by centering our discussions around tech policy, we can collectively contribute to shaping a more informed and responsible technological future.

Eligibility

Any student pursuing any Undergraduate and Post-Graduate courses and Research Scholars shall be eligible to register for the competition. Further, Team participation is limited to a maximum of two individuals.

Competition Format

The competition unfolds in three stages. In the initial phase, participants engage with a Policy Problem, crafting written submissions that dissect and address specific policy questions. The subsequent stage brings forth the top 20 teams to the Preliminary Presentation Rounds at the School of Law, Christ University campus.

Qualifying teams shall then proceed to the final stage which is the Final Presentation Round, wherein a blind shuffle of policy papers shall take place to add an element of spontaneity, followed by a comprehensive 20-minute presentation, critique, and resolution suggestions.

Finally, based on the scores and decision of the Panel of Judges three best papers shall be declared, each receiving a commendable cash prize. This structured this format ensures a rigorous and competitive progression, emphasizing analytical prowess and effective communication throughout the different stages of the competition.

  • Registration Opens 20th January 2024
  • Release of problem statement 30th January 2024
  • Last date for registration 05th February 2024
  • Last date to seek clarification 13th February 2024
  • Last date for submitting manuscripts 25th February 2024
  • Declaration of results 5th March 2024
  • Oral Presentation Rounds (both Preliminary and Final rounds): 26th and 27th March 2024 at the Central Campus.

Fee

The registration fee is Rs. 1500 per team, whether participating as an individual or as a team of two, and the same shall be payable only by the teams who shall qualify for the Preliminary Oral Presentations, which shall be held on the campus.
