Should I take a drop for CLAT? This question plagues the minds of countless of CLAT aspirants each year once the results are announced. From scoring low or not getting the NLU of your choice, there are various reasons why students decide to take a drop year for CLAT.

The answer to this question is both YES and NO, it depends on the group of candidates you belong to.
- Did you take CLAT because your parents wanted to?
- Did you take it because you are determined to pursue law?
- Did you find the exam pattern and syllabus very difficult?
- Was your performance in the exam bad because of silly mistakes and you just want one more chance?
Answer these questions honestly, and you’ll get your answer. CLAT 2023 is just 5 months away, scheduled to be held on December 18th, 2022. This short gap between the two consecutive exams makes it easier for one to take a gap year, if it is something you wish to do.
If you feel that your score could have been substantially better if only you could have rectified a few errors, then yes, taking a drop is a good plan. It will allow you to reflect on your mistakes, make your fundamentals stronger, and score well in CLAT 2023.
Make this drop meaningful. You do not need a year to prepare for this exam, you need practice, common and logical sense, and time management skills.
However, if upon taking this exam, you feel that it is not for you, if it doesn’t suit your interest, if you do not wish to spend more time on this, then perhaps a gap year wouldn’t be best for you.
There are so many law entrances, practice, prepare and crack them. If you aren’t getting a good or desired college, you can always study for CLAT while staying in college.
