Bengal logs 2,723 new coronavirus cases, 35 more deaths

Kolkata, Feb 2 (PTI) West Bengal on Wednesday reported 2,723 new coronavirus cases, 719 more than the previous day’s count, pushing the tally to 20,00 253, the health department said in a bulletin.

It said that 35 more deaths took the overall fatality count due to the disease to 20,687.

There were 2,014 new coronavirus infections and 33 fresh fatalities on Tuesday.

Altogether 2,950 Covid patients recovered from the disease in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of cured people to 19,57,686.

Of the new positive cases, North 24 Parganas district accounted for 565 followed by 324 in Kolkata, the bulletin said.

It said that eight fatalities were reported from South 24 Parganas district, seven from Kolkata and six from North 24 Parganas. Four deaths were recorded in Hooghly district.

The discharge rate went up marginally to 97.87 per cent from 97.86 per cent the previous day, while the fatality rate is 1.03 per cent.

The number of active cases in the state has slipped by 262 since Tuesday to 21,880 now.

A total of 2,33,26,464 samples have been tested in the state so far, including 59,104 in the past 24 hours, the bulletin added. PTI SUS NN NN
