In today’s featured cartoon, E.P. Unny refers to the Centre restoring the FCRA licence —mandatory for receiving and utilising foreign funds — of Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity, less than a fortnight after it had declined to renew it. The U-turn comes ahead of assembly polls in Goa, where Christians have huge political influence.

R. Prasad | Economic Times

R. Prasad also draws on the Centre allowing the Missionaries of Charity being able to continue receiving foreign donations. He refers to the “adverse inputs” cited by the MHA earlier, and says it was intercession by Mother Teresa, who was canonised as a saint of the Catholic Church in September 2016, that made this possible.

Manjul | News9

Manjul alludes to the security breach that left Prime Minister Narendra Modi stranded on a highway in Ferozepur, Punjab last week, and the response from his party members and supporters.

Alok Nirantar | Twitter/@caricatured

Alok Nirantar takes a swipe at political leaders for holding rallies ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections in five states, despite the ongoing third wave of Covid-19, which has led to restrictions being imposed on other activities. The Election Commission has now banned political rallies until 15 January.

Sajith Kumar | Deccan Herald

Sajith Kumar comments on Karnataka Congress president D.K. Shivakumar’s statement that “there is no Covid, it’s all the BJP’s creation”. Shivakumar had accused the BJP led-central government of manipulating Covid numbers to create a scare and scuttle the Congress’s 168-km padayatra for implementation of the Mekedaatu reservoir project.
