Nagpur, May 23 (PTI) A constable and the wife of a suspended policeman were arrested on Monday for allegedly duping a jeweller of Rs 12 lakh in Tehsil area of Nagpur, an official said.
Pankaj Ramteke (40), attached to Sitabuldi police station here, and Pallavi Jawlekar (32) were held on the complaint of jeweller Ravi Lolge, he said.
“Ramteke and Lolge are friends and the former, in February, promised the latter gold at cheaper rates. Over the next few days, Lolge purchased gold worth Rs 28 lakh from Ramteke. Later, the accused told the jeweller that Pallavi Jawlekar wanted to sell them 300 grams of gold at Rs 12 lakh,” he said.
“After taking Rs 12 lakh from Lolge, the accused first gave excuses about non-availability of gold, and then later stopped taking the jeweller’s calls. On Lolge’s complaint, Ramteke and Jawlekar were arrested,” the Tehsil police station official said. PTI COR BNM BNM
