Noida: Six held for fraud in raid at fake call centre

Noida, Mar 21 (PTI) The Noida Police on Tuesday said they have arrested six people on charges of fraud worth “lakhs of rupees” after a raid at a fake call centre.  The centre was being run as a front of a ‘Panchkarm Chooran’ (herbal powder) company, and the accused sold adulterated product for Rs 3,000 to Rs 6,000 per bottle, police said.

Once in possession of data of users of the herbal powder, accused duped them on the pretext of helping them with bank loans and job opportunities at leading private companies, police said.  “The accused gave these offers to gullible people over phone calls that were made by them through the call centre, located in the industrial Sector 63,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Noida) Ram Badan Singh said.  The fake call centre was busted following a raid during by Sector 63 police station team which nabbed six people from the spot, he said.  Those held have been identified as Vikas Singh, Puneet Kumar, Devansh Saxena, Harshit Srivastava, Nitish Kumar and Shailendra Nath, according to the police.  The police said two computers, two laptops, 13 smartphones, seven fake stickers of FSSAI, and Rs 1.18 lakh cash, among others, were seized from the spot during the raid.  The police said they also impounded a Honda Civic car and TVS Apache motorcycle from the accused.

An FIR has been lodged at the Sector 63 police station under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 467, 468, 471 (all related to forgery), as well as under provisions of the Information Technology (IT) Act, they added. PTI KIS TDS TDS
