Rahul Gandhi all set for ‘Bharat Nyay Yatra’, this time from Manipur to Mumbai & covering 6,200 km

New Delhi: After the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which saw Rahul Gandhi traverse the length of the country — from Kanyakumari to Kashmir — the Congress leader is set to embark on his second such journey. Called the Bharat Nyay Yatra, the trek this time will take Gandhi from east to west — Manipur to Mumbai — between 14 January and 20 March.

The Bharat Nyay Yatra will cover 6,200 kilometres across 14 states, the party said Wednesday.

Rajya Sabha MP K.C. Venugopal told reporters that at the Congress Working Committee meeting held last week, there was a “unanimous opinion” for Gandhi to go on an east to west yatra. “Rahul Gandhi agreed to fulfil the wishes of the CWC,” Venugopal said.

Between September 2022 and January this year, Gandhi had walked 4,080 km as part of Bharat Jodo Yatra, the first mass outreach initiative of its kind.

Venugopal called the first yatra “historic”, adding that Gandhi would repeat that feat, having garnered some “great experiences” from the previous one.

“In this yatra, Rahul Gandhi will interact with the youth of this country, its women and marginalised people… This yatra will go through Manipur, Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, West Bengal, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra.”

The Congress leader added that Gandhi would walk through 85 districts. He also said the mode of this yatra would largely be by bus, unlike the last one when Gandhi was on foot most of the way.

The Congress also said there would be “maximum access to the people on the way” during the second yatra. “It will also have short stretches of walking,” Venugopal added.
