New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday promised a monthly unemployment allowance of Rs 3,000 to graduates and Rs 1,500 to diploma holders for two years, if the party is voted to power in the imminent state elections.
Addressing a rally at Karnatakaβs Belagavi, Rahul said the stateβs youth told him during the βBharat Jodo Yatraβ that they could not find jobs.
He promised that the Congress would fill all job vacancies when it came to power.
βPeople complained that this government was the most corrupt government in India, that this is a β40% commissionβ government,β Rahul said at the βYuva Dhwaniβ event organised by his party.
The Congress has amplified its corruption charge against the BJP-led Karnataka government after MLA Madal Virupakshaβs son Prashant was caught taking a bribe by the stateβs Lokayukta in the beginning of March.
On 9 March, the Congress called a two-hour bandh of Karnataka markets, after former chief minister Siddaramaiah led a protest demanding Virupakshaβs arrest.
On Monday, Rahul reiterated his pet charge that βselect people who are BJPβs friends are getting all the benefitsβ¦ it is leading to corruptionβ.
βThis country belongs to everyone, it doesnβt belong to the two or three selected. It is not (Gautam) Adaniβs,β he added.
He also said that all Congress leaders would βunitedlyβ fight the Karnataka Assembly election and that it would sweep the state in the May polls.
The party in the past has been beset by a leadership tussle between Siddaramaiah and state Congress chief D.K. Sivakumar, particularly over the chief ministerβs post.
