How Metaverse is Going to Change the Digital World?

The news is buzzing with the term Metaverse, especially since Mark Zuckerberg announced that he is changing the name of his company’s name to Meta; but what is Metaverse?

In the year 1992, the term Metaverse was coined in a sci-fi novel, Snow Crash, written by Neal Stephenson. In the book, the metaverse is a sum of virtual reality where people can experience an interactive real-world environment.

An alternative name for the metaverse is a virtual universe where people use virtual reality headsets, augmented reality glasses, smartphone apps, or other devices to play, work, shop, and meet. It is basically living your virtual life in the same manner as you live your physical life.

Let’s take a look at how Metaverse is going to change the digital World.

1. Zoom Calls and Meetings

Rather than attending official zoom call meetings with your colleagues and watching them on a grid platform, you could meet them in a physical representation of your office, where each person looks like a digital version of themselves seated at a digital table drinking digital coffee and snacking on digital donuts. Your zoom meeting will become the same physical workplace where you used to go to work.

For a meeting with someone on the other side of the world, you don’t need to pay for a flight, a hotel, and spend several days just getting there. You can set up a zoom meeting for absolutely free and have a fifteen-minute meeting with anyone, anywhere in the world with metaverse.

2. Gaming

The gaming sector has been working with interactive media long back, but the concept of metaverse will also be new for them.
In the metaverse of video games, the protagonist of the game is able to have a great time, make new friends, and forget the worries of his real-life for a short while.

The potential of video games has been unappreciated, they are not just a source of entertainment but have a greater effect on human lives. Video games have the power to simulate real-world environments. Thus game publishers of today are using the metaverse platform to its fullest. Epic Games, publisher of Fortnite, is one of the companies that are trying very hard to turn the video game universe into a metaverse. Battle royale video games, like Fortnite, are at their core. As of the last few months, the video game has expanded to host concerts with some of the biggest musicians in the world, like Travis Scott and Ariana Grande.

3. Digital Shopping

We have been shopping online, but digital shopping will be altogether a different experience. You will first try on clothes digitally and then order them to arrive in the real world. You can be in a Louis Vuitton Showroom in London having a glass of digital champagne and trying on their latest collection, and then purchasing it and receiving it later in the real world.

We can also purchase a car online with metaverse. According to Epic CEO Tim Sweeney, he sees a future in which a car manufacturer attempting to advertise a new model “will drop their car into the world in real-time and you’ll be able to drive it”.

4. Education

The education sector is one of the major sectors which has been hit hard by the covid 19. This disruption has created online learning a crucial part of today’s learning.
The classes will run in a virtual space, where students can run, sit, talk, and play with each other in a computer-generated environment.  The students will learn from the instructors through live sessions just the way classes happen in a physical world.

In the biology class, instead of dissecting the animals and polluting the environment, students will be able to dissect animals over and over without incurring the cost (or smell) of a real pig or frog for more in-depth study, without harming the planet.
Gain a greater in-depth understanding of history by stepping back in time to World War I and II and touring it as a class just as it stood 100 years ago.

5. Virtual Concert

In a virtual concert with metaverse, a virtual avatar of the performer will be projected on the stage, which gives the feeling of a live concert. It will foster social connection as because of the pandemic, people have not been able to enjoy the concerts for a long time. Despite each viewer watching the concert alone, they will still be able to communicate with each other in the concert’s shared virtual space or by using live chat during the performance.

6. Digital Art

Metaverse brings physical art to the digital arena. Digital artists, art collectors, and enthusiasts of this new field of art are served by it. By promoting and managing cryptographic NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens) and artists, metaverse helps to promote the digital art movement.  Crypto coins are registered as NFTs, and all properties are validated as NFTs.

Art exhibitions can now be digitized and through the NFT corporations, the lives of people in marginalized communities across the world can be uplifted.

7. Travel around the World

Metaverse will offer the customers the option of trying before they buy, where travelers can experience a hotel or a destination before making the payment. So that you can actually decide for yourself whether you want it or not.
Secluded and remotely located resorts which are not well explored by people because people don’t want to take risks, can build a convincing case for themselves by providing virtual walkthroughs.

The majority of the extravagant resorts and hotels are way above an average person’s budget, with virtual reality those who cannot afford luxury will get a chance to experience it. People who can’t travel to distant places due to illness or age-factor can also take a tour at the comfort of their homes.

8. Swim with the Dolphins

If swimming with the Dolphins has been on your wishlist; then your wish is soon coming to be fulfilled. With the metaverse, you can wear waterproof virtual reality glasses and can drift around the pool watching dolphins playing around you in virtual reality.  The experience is so real that you could actually feel dolphins touching and moving around you.

There are endless opportunities with the metaverse that we could never even think of taking shape.  The virtual world will become so common and natural that it will become the primary reality in which humans will be experiencing their lives.
