This dish is very new to me and I have not heard about this dish since I started searching for some Andhra recipes. I made this dish for my sister friends when they visited our house. They all loved it and hope you love it too.
Ingredients for Chicken Iguru
- ½ kg Chicken
- 4 Dry Red chillies
- 2 large Onion finely chopped
- 3 large Tomatoes finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Ginger Garlic paste
- 1 tsp Turmeric powder / Manjal podi
- 1 tsp Cumin seeds / Jeerakam
- 4 Cardamom / Yelakai
- 1 inch piece Cinnamon / Pattai
- 1 tbsp Chilli powder
- 1 tbsp Coriander powder
- to taste Salt
- 2 sprig Curry leaves
- Cilantro / Coriander leaves for garnishing
For Masala:
- 1 cup Coconut
- 4 tbsp Cashews
How to Make Chicken Iguru
- Marinate the chicken with turmeric and ginger garlic paste for 15 mins..set this aside for a minute.
- Grind coconut and cashews to a smooth paste by adding some water.
- Heat oil in a kadai..Add in cardamom, cinnamon, cumin seeds and red chillies.
- Add in onions and fry till golden. In goes ginger and garlic paste and mix well..
- Now add in tomatoes and cook till oil separates..
- Now add in chilli and coriander powder..Pour in the blender masala and mix well..
- In a separate frying pan and oil and fry some curry leaves in..Add in the marinated chicken in this oil and sear on all sides…Remove this and set aside..
- Now add this chicken pieces in the gravy and mix well..
- Add required amount of water and bring that to boil..Season with salt…
- Cover and Cook this on a low flame for 30 mins..
- Garnish with cilantro and mix well
- Serve hot with rice

Chicken iguru step by step
Take all your ingredients |
Take Coconut and Cashews in a blender |
Make it into a fine paste |
Prepare all other ingredients |
heat oil and crackle in your whole spices |
add in onions |
and your ginger and garlic paste |
now add in tomatoes and mix well |
cook till oil separates |
add in coriander powder |
and chilli powder |
cook till oil separates |
now add in the ground masala |
pour in water |
cover and simmer |
Now marinate your chicken..Add turmeric powder and ginger and garlic paste |
mix well and let it marinate for 15 mins.. |
now start searing the chicken…Heat oil and add some curry leaves in it.. |
add the chicken pieces |
sear on all sides |
remove and set aside |
now open up the lid |
add the chicken pieces |
season with salt |
cover and simmer again for 30-40 mins |
Untill the chicken is cooked |
