Bread Halwa recipe with step by step pictures. To make bread halwa, bread cubes are first fried or roasted in ghee and later cooked with milk and sugar.

This Easy Bread halwa is one thing which i wanted to try for very long time. I have never tasted this before, but i am sure it will taste good and similar to wheat halwa. Since it is diwali i decided to give this a go and it turned out to be super yummy.

Ingredients for Bread Halwa

  • Bread – 6 slices
  • Sugar – ½ cup or to taste
  • Milk – 2 cups
  • Ghee – ½ cup + 1 tbsp
  • Cashews a handful
  • Raisans / Kishmish a handful
  • Cardamom Powder – ½ tsp

This recipe is very simple and basic. You just need a handful of ingredients which you might already have on hand. This halwa is so easy and it gives a good amount of halwa with just few slices of bread. So if you make a bigger batch, you can store this in fridge and whenever you want, you can heat it again in microwave or in a small pan and enjoy hot or warm.

How to Make Bread Halwa

  1. Remove the crust and chop it into small pieces.
  2. Heat ghee in a pan, add in cashews and fry till golden.Add in kishmish and fry. Remove it and set aside.
  3. Now add in chopped bread in the ghee and fry till golden brown.
  4. Now add in milk and mix well. Keep cooking till it thickens.
  5. Add in sugar and mix well. Keep cooking till it starts to leave the sides.
  6. Finally add a tblspn of ghee and mix well. Add in nuts and cardamom powder and mix well.
  7. Serve.
