Honey Walnut Bundt Cake Recipe

I love reading cookbooks on my leisure time. I have quite a few collections on my shelves. One of my favourite book to read is nigella lawson’s books. I have all her cookbooks on my hand. I read it and do cook from it too. Have made quite a lot of recipes of hers in my blog and this is another addition to it.

About this Recipe

A Bundt cake is a cake baked in a Bundt pan and shaped into a distinctive doughnut shape. The shape is based on a traditional European cake called Gugelhupf, but Bundt cakes are not typically associated with a single recipe.

Bundt cakes do not follow any specific recipe; instead, their distinguishing feature is their shape. The central tube or chimney that leaves a cylindrical hole through the centre of the cake is the most distinguishing design element of a Bundt pan. The design allows more of the mixture to contact the pans surface than a
simple round pan, resulting in faster and more even heat distribution during baking.

What is the point of a Bundt cake?

Because the bundt pan allows more of the cake to come into contact with the pans edges, heat is distributed more evenly. If you bake pound cake in a standard round cake pan, it will either not cook in the centre or burn on the edges.

Why is it called a Bundt?

Dave Dalquist, the pans designer, coined and trademarked the term Bundt. The name comes from the German word bundkuchen, which means "a cake for a gathering. Dalquist added the T to his name in order to trademark it.

The cake may look complicated, but it is actually pretty simple to make. There are two parts in this recipe, a honey walnut filling and a cake batter. I love the nutty honey filling which is surrounded by a vanilla pound cake. Delicious.

Ingredients For Honey Walnut Bundt Cake Recipe

All Purpose Flour / Maida :
Maida requires more oil or butter when baking or cooking because it is lighter and rises faster, which is why bakers prefer maida to atta. All-purpose flour can be used for a variety of tasks, including baking, cooking, coating meats and vegetables, and thickening sauces and gravies. To manufacture all-purpose flour, a blend of hard wheat (which has more gluten) and soft wheat is crushed together.

Unsalted Butter  :
Unsalted butter allows you to completely control the flavour of your recipe. This is especially important in baked goods that rely heavily on the pure, sweet cream flavour of butter (butter cookies or pound cakes). When it comes to cooking, unsalted butter allows the true, natural flavour of your foods to shine through.

Walnuts :
The meat of walnuts is rich, sweet, and earthy. The bitterness is enhanced by the papery skin. Walnuts are high in antioxidants and high in heart-healthy fats. Furthermore, eating walnuts on a regular basis may improve brain health and lower your risk of heart disease and cancer.

This cake is so easy to handle and will give you a clean slice when you cut them. So delicious with a cup of chai.

Hope you will give this a try and let me know how it turns out for you.

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 180 degree C. Grease a 23 cm bundt cake pan with oil and dust it with flour. Tap of the excess and set aside.

  • First make the filling, take flour, butter in a bowl. Use a fork to mix it well so it resembles coarse breadcrumbs. Add in cinnamon, walnuts and honey. Mix well. So it forms a sticky mixture.

  • Take flour, baking soda and baking powder in a bowl and mix well. Set aside.

  • Now take butter, sugar, vanilla in a bowl and use a beater to whip this till creamy.

  • Now add in eggs one at a time and whip till creamy.

  • Add in half of the flour mix and half of the yogurt. Fold gently, Now add in remaining flour mix and remaining yogurt. Fold again gently.

  • Spoon Ā¾th of the mix into the pan and use a spoon which is dipped in some oil to create a hollow in the center.  Spread the mixture up the sides a little and around the funnel of the tin to create a rim. You donā€™t want the sticky filling to leak out to the sides of the tin.

  • Dollop the honey filling carefully into the dent in the cake batter, then cover the filling with the remaining batter. Smooth the top and put the tin into the oven for 30 to 40 minutes.

  • Now remove the cake tin from oven, let it cool down for 30 mins. Ease the sides with a butterknife. Invert the cake over a plate. Let it cool completely, now slice and serve.
