School of Law, NMIMS Indore is organising 1st National Mediation Competition 2024 on 12-14 April. The last date of registration is April 3.

About Samadhan

SAMADHAN- The Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee (ADRC) of the School of Law, NMIMS, Indore, was established with the goal of promoting interest and expertise in the emerging field of ADR. The Committee aims to provide law students with a comprehensive understanding of Arbitration, Mediation, Client Counselling, Negotiation, and Pre-litigation– all integral components of Alternative Dispute Resolution.

About the Competition

Mediation serves as one of the prominent form of alternative dispute resolution (ADR), offering a constructive and voluntary method for parties to resolve conflicts outside traditional court processes. In mediation, a neutral third party, the mediator, facilitates communication and guides the disputing parties toward a mutually agreeable resolution.

This competition is a structured event that offers participants to, engage in mock mediation sessions to develop and showcase their skills in resolving disputes. The competition evaluates participant’s ability to facilitate communication, manage conflicts, and reach agreements, emphasizing key aspects of mediation practice.

Eligibility

  • Only Law Colleges/Universities recognized by the Bar Council of India are eligible to participate.
  • Each University may nominate up to 2 teams to participate in the competition.
  • Only bonafide students pursuing 3-year/5-year LLB degree programs, during the current academic year are eligible to participate.
  • No Cross University teams shall be eligible to participate in this competition.

Important dates

  • 11th March, 2024: Commencement of Registration
  • 03rd April, 2024: Closing of Registration
  • 03rd April, 2024: Release of Mediation Problem (Preliminary Round)
  • 04th April, 2024: Training session
  • 05th April, 2024: Preliminary Rounds (Online)
  • 06th April, 2024: Preliminary Rounds- Result Declaration
  • 08th April, 2024: Travel Form Submission
  • 08th April, 2024: Problem Release for Quarter, Semi and Final Round
  • 12th April, 2024: Inaugral Ceremony
  • 13th April, 2024: Quarter Final and Semi-Final
  • 14th April, 2024: Final Rounds and Validictory Ceremony

Team Composition

  • A team is to be composed of three (3) members – a mediator and a client-counsel pair forming the
    Negotiating Team.
  • It is important to note that the roles of the mediator and the client-counsel pair cannot be swapped during any round.

Theme

All the problems shall be based on the following subjects:

  • Contract Law
  • Civil/Commercial Law
  • Family Law
  • Competition Law

Fee

The registration fee of INR 2,500 for Preliminary Rounds (Virtual Mode) and an additional fee of INR 2,500 (Accommodation & Food) for the qualifying Rounds (Offline Mode) must be submitted. Payment can be
made directly to the below-mentioned bank details.

The deadline for registration and payment is 03rd, April, 2024 (EOD). Kindly ensure that both registration and payment are completed before this date to secure your participation in the competition.
