Delhi High Court seeks response from Delhi Government in plea to increase number of Labour Courts, Industrial Tribunals

The petition was filed by a society, Labour Law Association through advocates Rajiv Agarwal, Meghna De, L Gangmei, N Bhushan and Moksha Sharma.

It argued that the sanctioned strength of labour courts in Delhi is 10, while three industrial tribunals are required. However, at present nine labour courts and two such tribunals are functioning in the city.

The petition said that even if the sanctioned number of courts and tribunals are fulfilled, it would be less than what the capital requires.

“It is further submitted that the current sanctioned strength of Labour Courts and Industrial Tribunals, even if they work in full capacity, is inadequate to shorten the time for disposal as desired in the Industrial Disputes Act. The current sanctioned strength has been decided many years back and there has not been any review of the same in recent years,” the plea said.
