Hindu outfit moves Agra court to ban annual “Urs” of Shah Jahan at Taj Mahal

The case was listed before a civil judge at Agra District Court on Friday and will be next heard on March 4.

The petitioner Hindu outfit in the suit filed through filed through advocate Anil Tiwari has sought the prohibitory injunction also against free entry of people on the occasion.

The ‘Urs’ event is scheduled from February 6 to February 8. The event is dedicated to commemorate the death of Shah Jahan, who commissioned Taj Mahal, built in 1653 on the banks of the Yamuna River. The event involves various rituals such as ‘chadar posh,’ ‘sandal,’ ‘gusul,’ and ‘kul.’
