How did you Apply?
I applied for the internship by filling the Application Form and attaching my CV and Cover Letter at the link provided on the official website of the Chambers.
After few weeks, I got an interview call from the Chambers. The interview lasted for about 10 minutes, wherein I was asked some basic questions on topics related to Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 and Companies Act, 2013. Then the next day, I received an email from the Chambers regarding the confirmation of my internship.
First Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression
On the first day, after an introduction with everyone working at the Chambers, I was asked to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Thereafter, I was allotted the work on the first day itself as there is no dearth of work at the Chambers.
The Chambers is equipped with all the facilities that are required to efficiently work in a law office and that one could deem. It has a decent library containing bare acts and legal commentaries on almost all major acts.
Also, there is a kitchen at the Chambers which interns are allowed to use and from where one can get tea, coffee or green tea. The interns sit and work in the conference room. There was a separate room where associates sit and work and Abhinav Sir and Nivedita Ma’am, the founders of the Chambers had their separate workrooms.
Main Tasks
The tasks/assignments/work that I performed during my internship period are the following:
- Drafted an Application under Section 60(5) of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code, 2016 read with Regulation 9 of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (Liquidation Process) Regulations, 2016 and Rule 11 of the National Company Law Tribunal Rules, 2016.
- Drafted an Impleadment Application under Rule 11 of the National Company Law Tribunal Rules, 2016.
- Drafted a Pre-Summoning Evidence to be filed before the Metropolitan Magistrate, New Delhi District.
- Drafted a letter to be send to the Judicial Section of Ministry of Law and Justice, Department of Legal Affairs requesting to effectuate the service of notice to respondents.
- Attended virtual meeting with a client and assisted in drafting Privacy Policy and Terms and Conditions for his website.
- Assisted in compiling the monthly newsletter published by the Chambers upon select judgements pronounced by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India and National Company Law Appellate Tribunal in December 2021.
- Vetted a statement of claim to be filed before the Arbitral Tribunal comprising of retired Supreme Court Judge.
- Prepared case briefs on matters pertaining to Insolvency and Bankruptcy Laws filed before National Company Law Tribunals and research notes on different topics of law.
Work Environment
Everyone at the Chambers, be it founders themselves or the senior associates were always there to clear even the smallest and silliest of the doubts that I had regarding the work allotted to me. I could approach them at all time for any kind of help or guidance.
However, the Chambers has a strict working environment with respect to tasks allotted to interns and deadlines for the same, which according to me is necessary also.
Good things
The best part of my internship was that every task allotted to me was reviewed and given feedback on, which helped me in knowing my mistakes and the ways of improving. Another thing that I liked the most is that every day Abhinav Sir himself interacted with the interns. The sessions with Sir were both educational and motivational.
Further, I got to learn how the law functions in real world by working on live cases. My internship experience at the Chambers was one of the most fruitful and enriching experience so far.
Bad things
The only problem that I faced during my internship was that Sundays were even working. Nevertheless, it taught me how to manage and work in a tight schedule. In addition, the experience that I gained during my internship at the Chambers was worth sacrificing Sundays.
Accommodation & Conveyance to Office
I stayed in a PG and commuted to the Chambers by metro.
Stipend
I received a decent stipend. The Chambers offer a stipend to all the interns based on their performance during the internship period.
Further, all the miscellaneous costs incurred by interns on any official work was reimbursed on the very same day. Also, whenever I was asked to stay late for any work, the Chambers ensured for my meal and reimbursed the cab fare.
