How did you apply for the internship?

The Competition Commission of India (CCI), a statutory body under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, is in charge of upholding the Competition Act, 2002, which was passed to encourage competition and prevent actions that might materially harm it. The CCI investigates cases and looks into them if they have an adverse effect on competition.

The criteria that must be met in order to apply for the internship are made clear on the website. The application must be submitted one month prior to the desired month of internship. It can be sent via official e-mail or postal mail, as specified on the website.
The applicant must fill out the application form and attach their resume (CV), non-objection certificate (NOC) from their institution, and statement of purpose (SOP). The statement of purpose should discuss your perspective on the Competition Act as well as the research you intend to conduct if chosen.

First-day formalities, infrastructure, first impression

  • The first week of the internship will begin with an orientation program with directors and joint directors from several CCI divisions addressing the significance of the Competition Act and how CCI operates. During the first week, you will become more acquainted with competition law and have to decide on your research topic. Each intern has to meet with their mentor and discuss their research topic.
  • NOTE: Be ready to answer the question “Why Competition Commission of India” along with your introduction.
  • As of the second week, you have to start developing your research and should consult with your mentors.
  • By the third week, interns should have the second draft paper of their research topic ready and make any necessary changes based on their mentor’s suggestions.
  • By the end of the internship, the interns have to get their mentor’s approval before mailing their report to the advocacy section.
  • Additionally, each intern should do a presentation on their study topic to the commission on the last day.

Main tasks

  • To get familiar and acquainted with competition law and its importance
  • To do research on topics relevant to competition law
  • To present the research paper to the commission

I am so glad that I participated in this internship program organized by the Competition Commission of India. I would advise every law student to complete an internship here because it will open your eyes to a world with far better opportunities.
