First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

First Impression: When we arrived at our destination, we were greeted with gestures, which left us with a favorable impression of our organization.
First Day: On our first day, we had our orientation session in the Saket district court, where all 200 DLSA legal interns met. They had given us an idea of what we would be doing for the next 20 days at the orientation session. In short, DLSA presented us with a work catalog.
Infrastructure: DSLSA’s flagship office in Patiala House has good infrastructure.

Main Tasks

The entire group is required to visit various locations inside Delhi itself on various dates and times as specified in the schedule provided to us by DSLSA in order to gain perspectives on the many legal sectors in which the said legal organization is functioning.

Work Environment

The work environment was strict; we had to wear black and white uniforms every day, and attendance was also required. However, the surrounding landscape was equally pleasant. The officials were genuinely nice to law students, particularly to first-year students. A proper schedule was given to us which included each and every detail of the place to visit and the person whom to contact. We had field visits daily. We visited the following places:

  • Mandoli Jail
  • Institute of Human Behavior and Allied Sciences(IHBAS)
  • Observation Homes
  • Child Welfare Committee (CWC)
  • Police Station
  • Tis Hazari Court
  • NGO

Good things

We got to meet new people every day, and it was really nice. Every time I learn something new, which is one of the best things about this internship, I recall when our group went to the CWC office. The officials were extremely courteous and patiently answered our questions.
My Personal Favorite was the visit to Mandoli Jail.

Bad things

  • You have to travel too much, it becomes a hectic task especially when you are doing your summer internship.
  • Not Every place we visited had an insightful experience. I still remember our visit to the Swabhiman Parisar (an old age home); officials from that old age home had no interest in interacting with us. They were doing it just for the sake of formality.

Accommodation & Conveyance to Office

I live in Delhi, therefore this was not an issue for me. I took the Metro every day from my house to the places we had to visit according to our timetable. Though there were several interns with us who were not from Delhi, they chose PGs and flats based on their own preferences.

Stipend

There will be no stipend, but you will receive a certificate upon completion of your internship.
