I applied for the internship via mail.

First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

I joined the internship in May 2022, and on the first day, I reached the organization at 9 a.m. Later, I was asked to submit my bona fide certificate and was given an induction about the whole internship. Then we were separated into a group of three since there were many other interns, and we were assigned different courts to attend, watch, and learn from the court proceedings.

Main Tasks

As an Intern at District Legal Services Authority, Kannur, our main tasks were simple. The interns were divided into various groups of three each. Then, each group was assigned a different court to watch and learn from the court proceedings. I mainly visited the Sessions Court, Fast Track Court, and Family Court. While the Court was in session, the interns were required to note the case number and prepare a summary of the proceedings that happened that day. This was our primary task as an intern at DLSA, Kannur.

Work Environment

The work environment at the District Legal Services Authority, Kannur, is remarkable. They treat interns like new students, and the paralegal volunteers and advocates affiliated with the institution provide a great deal of legal knowledge on how to attend and keep up the court etiquette, as well as attending mediation and adults.

The officers also took us for a field visit to Kannur Central Jail to gain practical knowledge. It was a hands-on experience for me as an intern.

Good things

The first and foremost appreciable good thing about this institution is its hospitality towards its interns. During my fourteen days of internship, I never felt any pressure from the officers or the advocates. We were given a lot of free materials as a bonus, too, to learn from them.

Bad things

The few bad things I felt about this organization are their limited resources, slow progress, Inadequate Outreach, bad Quality of Legal Assistance as per the availability of experienced lawyers, Bureaucratic Hurdles they face like any other government organization, lack of awareness among people about DLSA, the limited scope and its dependency on para legal volunteers.

Accommodation & Conveyance to Office

DLSA, Kannur, does not provide any accommodation facilities for their interns. So, I had to go to their organization daily from my home. The lack of accommodation for their interns is a drawback I can find in the internship opportunity. Other than that, DLSA is the best place to do an internship.
