How did you apply for the internship?
I applied by sending an email at juscorpus@gmail.com with my curriculum vitae and a cover letter.
Consider sending your application with a writing sample of articles/blog/journal to maximize your chances of selection.
I applied on July 28, 2021. Within a day or two of applying, I received a confirmation e-mail (it took me a few follow-up emails).
The point of contact for further communication was indicated in the confirmation e-mail.
During my internship, I discovered that the e-journal typically has 40-50 interns every month (virtually).
First day formalities, infrastructure, first impression
All interns for September-October 2021 were made to join a WhatsApp group dedicated for job allocation on the first day.
Following that, all interns (both old and new) were invited to a virtual meeting with all the associates.
We were asked to describe ourselves and our research interests during the meeting, after which we were assigned our work.
I was assigned work in the same area because I was interested in blogging and novel problems with legal implications.
We were also told that we should provide our blogs, essays, and journals in MS Word format with suitable citations.
We used this document during the internship.
Before submitting the work, editors used to check it and provide suggestions (if necessary).
The excitement and nervousness was at their peak after the submission.
Main Tasks
The major task assigned to me was:
1. Update the google sheet with our topic and get approval on the same;
2. After the successful approval we had to write a blog with not more than 1000-1500 words on MS-word using the OSCOLA 4th edition’s citation.
3. Then we had to send the blog to the editor. Within 7 days they used to suggest the changes (if any) or give a green flag for publication.
4. Certification was only received if we successfully submitted and published 3 blogs with the time limit.
Work Environment
Despite the fact that it was a virtual internship, the working environment was so pleasant that it didn’t feel like it.
If you’re interested, you can also volunteer for a specific project. That is greatly appreciated by them.
The workload will be reasonable and within the capabilities of a first-year law student.
The editors provide extensive feedback after each task, which acts as a wonderful learning curve.
At the end of the internship, you will be required to give a presentation.
Good Things
1. Exposure to quality citation work at an early stage during law school. Quality research propositions, insight of legal profession, etc.
2. Work-related to a gamut of laws like POCSO Act, 2012, miscellaneous laws, constitutional law, laws governing trusts and societies, etc.
3. Get to be a part of all meetings and internal discussions of the e-journal, thus giving you a panoramic exposure.
4. Get to work closely with all the editors, therefore, a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with how your life as a content creator would look like.
5. Detailed feedback was given by the senior editor for every assignment and for your overall performance at the end of the internship.
Bad Things
No bad thighs as such.
Stipend
No stipend, but the best intern was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 501 and a shoutout on LinkedIn.
Details about accommodation and commute
As this was an online internship, I didn’t have to commute to the office.
However, their office is situated at the heart of Lucknow and can be easily reached by taking an auto.
Anything else?
Overall it was a great experience and had a conducive environment. Editors were always there to help you if any situation arose.
The seniors always had a positive sense towards the juniors.
As a 1st year student, it would be great and worth working at this journal and you will learn and add stars to your personalities.
This internship will help you be way ahead of many of your friends, who would have been struggling with hurdles that you already would have overcome during your internship.
