First Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

On the very first day we had an introduction class which provide us all the details regarding KELSA, its purpose, history and about all their services. We were also briefed about the task and duties that we have to do in the upcoming days of internship, along with the court mannerisms that should be followed.

The office is equipped all the facilities and provide honest services and advice to the common people. Since it is a service to the common people, when we step foot there, a group of hopeful eyes will turn to us and that motivate us to be a part of their services.

First few days we were introduced to several important topics which were important for our practical experiences, and were taken by professionals. The classes were captivating and enlightening. We were also allotted with some assignments, researches and presentations. After the introductory classes we were made into groups and allotted to different offices to acquire practical experience and knowledge.

Our group was allotted to five different offices with a minimum of two days. Every office gave us different experiences and direct interaction with several advocates. We got a chance to witness the trial of several prominent cases, had a chance to visit jail and participated in mediation, negotiation, adalath and several more which was an indelible experience.

At the end of the internship we are entitled to submit an internship report consisting of all the experiences and we acquired from the first day of internship, and only after the analysis of report the certificate is provided.

Work Environment

Everyone in the office, even the judges and advocates were always there to clear even the smallest and silliest of the doubts that I had regarding the work allotted to me. I could approach them in any respect time for any reasonable facilitate or guidance.

We were a group of ten, consisting of students from different colleges and different semesters; it gave us new connections and a strong friendship. Good team members give us motivation and my team members were immensely supportive and those made my days stress less and motivated.

Good things

The best part of my internship was I had all the right to ask my doubts even the silliest; they valued my opinions and were not judging. I got the opportunity to work on several major matters across numerous subjects of law. Our internship was not limited to one place; we were allotted to all the institutions under Kelsa and had an opportunity to interact with everyone from top to bottom.

Further, I got to learn about how legal aids and provided and the importance of KELSA. My experience at Kerala State Legal Services Authority was fruitful and enriching so far.

Bad things

The only negative I felt was that it took a while to get an internship here. It was due to the large number of applicants but the internship was worth the wait.

Accommodation & Conveyance to Office

No accommodation was provided, and I travelled by bus. Regular bus service and metro service were there to all the allotted offices. For accommodation several hostels and apartments are near to office.

Stipend

No stipend was given.
