Internship Experience at Office of Advocate General, Haryana: Kind; Friendly; No Stipend

Name of the Student

Divyam Bhatia

College and Year of Study

Institute of Law, Kurukshetra University, 3rd Year

Name and Address of the Organization

Office of Advocate General, Haryana (Currently Ld. AG is Sr. Adv. Baldev Raj Mahajan) Punjab & Haryana High Court, Chandigarh

Duration of Internship

3rd July 2023 to 31st July 2023 (1 month)

How did you Apply?

One has to apply through online mode by sending an e-mail to the Advocate General of the state under which a candidate wishes to work as an intern. The e-mail should contain a cover letter telling his willingness to be an intern in the office along with his CV & NOC issued by the University/College in which the student is studying.

First-Day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

On the 1st day of the internship, there is an orientation session conducted in which the leader gives a briefing on the internship program and courtrooms, proceedings of the courts, and the tasks that are to be assigned to us during the internship. Then We have an interaction session with Ld. AG Sir, then we head out for the witness of the court proceedings.

Main Tasks

  • Firstly, the students have to observe the courtrooms hear the arguments, and witness the proceedings.
  • Secondly, they assign some other tasks i.e. preparing case briefs, synopsis & to find the judgements.
  • Other Mentos in the office intimate us about the cases in which Ld. AG Sir will appear and we witness the proceedings of that case. They also tell us about some special proceedings like the Courtroom of full bench. They also guide us on how to complete tasks assigned to us.

Work Environment

The office had a healthy environment where our mentors guided us to learn things and to pursue this field. Other staff in the office was also kind & friendly to us. Even the Ld. AG Sir gives his time to interact with us from their busy schedule during the internship.

Good things

All things during the internships are good if you come & join the internship to learn something. If you come just to add one more experience to your CV, then it will be added but you will be unable to learn something different & unique. Also, the mentors and other employees working there were also cooperative and nice to us.

Bad things

I don’t think there is any such bad thing that I realized during this internship. But the only bad thing that I want to add is that the internship program comes to an end. Now we can’t get that exposure that I was getting during the internship.

Accommodation & Conveyance to Office

There are numerous PGs available in Chandigarh for stay and I also took that and you can use public transport for traveling. Also, there is a bus stop for the city buses outside the High Court and the Office of Advocate General is just walking distance away from the Bus stop. The students coming from outside Chandigarh via public transport can also take these buses from the bus stand of Chandigarh.

Stipend

None but a certificate will be awarded after completion of the internship.
