How did you apply?

Jaipur is my hometown so I basically applied with an application and recommendation letter (necessary for internship) from my college. Before submitting the hard copy I sent an e-mail for the same then I submitted the hard copy.

After that, they told me they will let me know if they are conducting internships or not since the Corona pandemic is almost at its peak. After a week, I had a dialogue about the internship with the member secretary and finalized the dates.

First Day Formalities, Infrastructure and First Impression

On the first day, the information about the working of the commission, its powers, how the complaint can be filed was given.

The commission basically works upon five acts, three out of them are of special importance for safeguarding the children of the state; every act and type of case are distributed among four members, supervising that particular field.

They are:

  • Juvenile Justice Act 2015.
  • The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act 2012.
  • Right to Education Act 2009.
  • Child Marriage Prohibition Act 2006.
  • Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act 1986.

All the work was done in Hindi. The commission is working in an offline manner and hence, our internship was also offline. All the safety measures were followed by the staff and me.

Main Tasks

This internship at this commission has enhanced my knowledge of the laws relating to the protection and development of children in our society. During my days at this internship, I have learned the working, powers and functions of this commission.

The tasks were mainly to analyze and brief the cases after reading the files. RSCPCR has worked tirelessly in rescuing children across the state.

They also let you visit the Child welfare committee: Raajkiya Balika Grah/ShishuGrah and the government girl’s senior secondary school and these visits help you in understanding the working of RSCPCR in depth.

The major functions of the commission are to protect children from sexual offences, child labour, and the juvenile justice act. As a citizen of Rajasthan and of India, this internship has helped me understand the rights of children in our country and how to protect our children.

It has made me a responsible individual towards the rights and protection of the children of our country.

Work Environment

The work environment was good and the staff was friendly and helpful. They helped us whenever and however possible. Everyone was good with their work and try to guide you if you ask.

The staff educated me about the different aspects of crimes against children in our society in depth. All the official work is done in the Hindi language.

Accommodation, Commuting to Office

Since I am a Local of Jaipur city I have my own place to live. I commuted mainly by two-wheeler, auto or Ola/uber bike, which one can find easily in Jaipur. The commission is in a prime location and that is why it is easily reachable.

There are PGs nearby where one can live and commute easily from there to the commission.

Good Things

We got to know the powers and areas of jurisdiction of the state information commission. The commission is at a very good place you can go out nearby to eat after work. The staff might offer you tea if they see you sitting around. Working hours for interns can be flexible.

Bad Things

Initially, I found a lack of an internship program in RSCPCR and we roamed around for a few days in the beginning. Other than that, the experience here was very good and enlightening as a law student.

Stipend

None. Working in RSCPCR as an intern was a good and insightful experience. I would recommend this internship to the beginners of 5 years integrated law course. Out of 5, the rating would be 3.75.
