Juristas is an annual International Law Essay competition organised the Jean Monnet Chair, EU Climate Justice Law, Governance, Management and Policy (EUC – LAMP) Symbiosis Law School, Pune in collaboration with the ILSA Chapter, SLS Pune

Eligibility

Participation is open to all Undergraduate and Post-Graduate Students enrolled in any institution in India or Abroad.

Registration Fees

There is no registration fee for the essay competition.

Formatting Guidelines

  • All entries must be formatted in Times New Roman, Font Size 12, and Line spacing 1.5 The Essay must not be less than 4500 words and not more than 6500 words, including footnotes.
  • The Essay should be accompanied with a 250 word abstract which will not be counted towards the word limit.
  • All entries should contain footnote citations formatted in Times New Roman, Font Size 10 and Single Line spacing.
  • Footnotes must follow the citation system specified in Harvard Blue Book, 20 Edition.
  • All entries should include a cover page specifying the name of the author, institutional affiliation, course and year of study, email address, postal address and contact number.
  • Any identifying information is not to be mentioned anywhere in the abstract or the body of the essay. Violation of this rule will lead to immediate disqualification.

Submission Procedure

  • Submission of entries are to be made in soft copies to ilsaessay@symlaw.ac.in, with the subject of the mail being “JURISTAS 2024”.
  • The paper must be the original and unpublished work of the author, and should not be in consideration for publication or in a contest elsewhere.
  • Co-authorship is permitted but restricted to a maximum of two individuals per essay. Plagiarism of any nature will attract immediate disqualification.
  • A similarity index of up to 10% will be permitted. (Use of AI of any form is strictly prohibited.)

  • The intersection of climate change and social justice, including issues of environmental racism and inequality.
  • The potential impact of geoengineering and other large-scale interventions in addressing climate change.
  • The role of intergenerational equity in climate change policy and decision-making.
  • The potential of community-based initiatives and grassroots activism to drive climate action and policy change.
  • Traditional Knowledge For Sustainable Practices: Indigenous Tribal People Cognizance on Climate Change.

Prizes

  • First Prize – Rs. 15,000/-
  • Second Prize – Rs. 10,000/-
  • Third Prize – Rs. 5,000/-
